BISA Training Day 2009

On Friday and Saturday 4th and 5th June 2009 the 5th BISA Training Day was hosted by the Wessex Film & Sound Archive section of the Hampshire Record Office in Winchester. Five presentations were given and an AGM was held on the Friday; on Saturday morning a tour was arranged of the Wessex Film & Sound Archive.

The first presentation of the morning’s proceedings described three government-funded independent local radio digitisation projects carried out by a consortium of UK organisations and led by the Bournemouth University; the second paper, from the UK National Archives, dealt with national collection strategies for audiovisual archives; and the last presentation before lunch, from the British Library, gave an overview of current developments in metadata standards and practices. The afternoon session consisted of a talk about the processes involved in Bournemouth University's ILR project and a presentation by the University of Southampton on non-contact capture and replay methods for legacy recordings. The day ended with the playing of several audiovisual recordings from the Wessex Film & Sound Archive.
