Collection name: D-Day 70; Subjects: Oral History: The collection consists of recordings of 38 people who were living in and around Bishops Waltham' in 1944. The transcribed recordings and findings were used to illustrate our D-Day 70th Anniversary at the museum. Bishops Waltham is situated about ten miles from the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton so our interviewees only witnessed bombing at a distance but they were aware of the build up of troops and equipment in the days leading up to D-Day and of the prisoners of war billeted in the locality. They spoke of the welcome extended to evacuees and of food rations stretched with home grown vegetables and wild rabbit.; items:
