Collection name: Scottish Life Archive; Subjects: Oral History: The oral history recordings held within the Scottish Life Archive relate to the material culture collections also held in NMS. Worth noting are: ' Salt of the Earth'; 'Our Story Scotland'; 'Women's Timber Corps' and 'Edinburgh Crystal', as well a many recordings of farm workers.; items: 10 Open Reel Tape, 18 Compact Cassette, 400 MiniDisc, 5 Audio CD-R, 5 Digital Audio Files "Collection name: Jean Jenkins Archive; Subjects: World, Folk & Traditional Music: The Jean Jenkins Collection came to the Museum in two batches. In 1980, the Museum purchased Jenkins personal collection. This contained not only musical instruments but textiles, paintings, figures and other items related to her travels and music in general. After Jenkins death in 1990, the Museum received the rest of the collection through the wishes of the executor of Jenkins estate. This second batch of material the sound recordings, paper archives, images, more musical instruments and various other items from her travels. It is believed to be one of the broadest musical recording archives ever collected by one person. There are 3149 digitised clips of sound recordings by Jenkins from Africa, India, Middle East. including rare examples collected from Afganistan, Ethiopia, Uganda.
