Paper 2

The EASIER Project (Enriched Access to Sound Archives using Integration, Enrichment and Retrieval): developing tools to improve information retrieval within sound archives
Dan Barry, Dublin Institute of Technology
Joe Harrop, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama

This presentation gave an account of the work of the EASIER Project, an initiative by a group of European universities and technology companies to develop new technologies for sound archives. Focusing on DSP manipulation, these technologies will include programmes for automatic segmentation and metadata-extraction, sound separation, organisation of metadata, graphic display of audio information, as well as music transcription and analysis facilities, and other ‘user enrichment’ tools. Some demonstrations were made of the EASIER software and the speaker called for user feedback to help develop the technologies further.
