East Midlands Oral History Archive

Centre for Urban History
University of Leicester
United Kingdom

The East Midlands Oral History Archive holds 7-inch and 15-inch reels of magnetic tape, cassettes, minidiscs and born-digital recordings. The Archive was originally funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to establish the first large-scale archive of oral history recordings for Leicestershire & Rutland. This includes the collections of the former Leicester Oral History Archive, the Mantle archive from North West Leicestershire, the Community History archive of Leicester City Libraries, the Market Harborough Museum collection, and the sound archive of BBC Radio Leicester, along with smaller collections donated by local organisations or individuals.

Access conditions:

The physical recordings are held at the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland (ROLLR) where they can be listened to by appointment. The University of Leicester holds digital copies of some of the recordings, which can also be listened to by appointment with EMOHA. Public use of recordings is usually subject to copyright restrictions and a fee. Full details of the collections and access conditions can be found on the EMOHA website - http://www.le.ac.uk/emoha/catalogue.html
